Looking into my archive

Cartier Bresson used to say: the archive is like good wine, it improves over time.

Street dance in Kolkata

Street dance in Kolkata

Therefore, in this time of lockdown because of the epidemic Covid-19, I am not wasting my time while I am at home and I gradually go through all my archive, looking carefully at all my pictures taken in the last 15 years. I am glad to see that sometimes a good surprise, and this is such the case.

I took this picture in Kolkata, India, on the 17th September 2005, and I never considered it before. The reasons are multiple: first of all, at that time I didn’t have a computer as fast as now, and second, now I can see a good picture more clearly than before. Therefore, if during these days you are in lockdown too, do not waste your time and look attentively in your archive and be patient, you will be surprised!

I still remember very well the scene I pictured: it was a hot, humid night in Kolkata and at a crossroad somebody pushed the radio of his car to a very high volume, and everybody was dancing in the street and on his car’s hood too. I never knew if it was for a birthday or a religious feats, anyway it was during the Dhurga Puja.
