The gothic church of Madonna dell’Orto is a magical place for many different reasons. First of all it was the church of the great venetian renaissance’s painter Tintoretto, who lived just round the corner, near Campo dei Mori. And then it’s one of the most beautiful gothic churches you can find in Venice. On the other side of the canal there is this narrow calle with no way out, and today the silouhette of the two men working was perfect. The name “Madonna dell’Orto is not the original one. It was built about the middle of the XIV century by Fra Tiberio of Parma, with the name of San Cristoforo, later changed to the Madonna dell’Orto because of an ancient miraculous image of the Virgin which had been found in a nearby garden (orto), having brought into the church.
