Everything will be all right

It looks like it was very early in the morning, but it isn’t.

Sometimes I am asked to hold a Photo Tour in Venice early in the morning, to escape the crowds. During these days of epidemic Covid-19 instead, I walked far and wide in the central hours of the day, on assignment for a newspaper, and these were the scenes I saw in front of me.

No one, not even the oldest ones, nor in wartime, can remember to have seen Venice as empty as now. All the shops are closed, and people are allowed to walk around only to get some food, or with their dog for his needs, but no more than 15’. The army is very strict in checking all permissions to move in town.

Even the most famous and old café in the whole world, the Café Florian, opened in 1720 in San Marco’s square, had to close its doors for at least two weeks. On the main door of the Café somebody left this message: “Andrà tutto bene” – “Everything will be all right”. We all hope so.
