Baretèri 

They are the chaplains who make the gondolier summer hats and winter caps. Historically in Venice the baretèri and the capelèri have been associated since 1281 with other brotherhoods (Mariegole) of clothing artisans: marzèri (haberdashers), sartòri (tailors), varotèri (furriers), glove-makers.

In 1677 they became independent and after the French Revolution the trade was divided between “modiste” for women and “cappellai” for men.
